Update on the Queenland Government's Land Tax Bill - REIQ News March 10

Update on the Queensland Government’s Land Tax Bill

Round two has commenced, with REIQ joining the collective lobby group, to heighten awareness of the government’s proposed valuations amendments through the Valuation of Land and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2010 tabled in parliament on 11 February.

While the Premier agreed to defer the debate in parliament, proposals are being discussed to break the current stalemate which includes a call for an independent public review of the land valuation system.

Today’s full page advertisement in the Courier Mail continues the ongoing and intensive efforts by industry groups to negotiate a satisfactory outcome for Government, industry and the public.  Proposed amendments to Queensland’s method of valuation, rating and land tax system is a radical change and will affect all Queenslanders in some way.
